Our first grants

The Colin Project, an initiative of The Colin Wolf Foundation, dedicated to ending the crisis of homelessness in the youth LGBTQ+ community, announces a series of grants as a part of its inaugural annual giving campaign, "November 4 Ever".

Foundation leadership and its advisors are proud to announce giving two grants to like-minded and mission-aligned organizations working and making a real impact in the Nation's Capital.

The first grant goes to SMYAL (Supporting and Mentoring Youth Advocates and Leaders) supports and empowers lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) youth in the Washington, DC, metropolitan region. Through youth leadership, SMYAL creates opportunities for LGBTQ youth to build self-confidence, develop critical life skills, and engage their peers and community through service and advocacy. The second grant goes to Friendship Place, a leader in Washington, D.C., in developing solutions to homelessness that have measurable results and a lasting impact. Using innovative, customized, person-focused programs, Friendship Place empowers participants to rebuild their lives, find homes, get jobs, and reconnect with friends, family, and the community, permanently. On behalf of the mission of The Colin Project, I am humbled to be a part of providing these gifts to two organizations making a real and measurable impact on ending the crisis of homelessness in the District of Columbia. We look forward to working with both organizations to align our missions to make a real and measurable impact to this very at-risk population.
— Dave Wolf, Advisor to The Colin Wolf Foundation
SMYAL is incredibly grateful to be receiving this grant from the Colin Wolf Foundation. The work to end LGBTQ youth homelessness is truly a community effort and we will continue this mission in Colin’s memory. This grant will help fund SMYAL’s Youth Housing Programs that serve LGBTQ youth experiencing homelessness by providing stable housing, affirming case management, and support for young people on their paths to sustainable independence.
— Sultan Shakir, SMYAL Executive Director.

The Colin Wolf Foundation is a charitable endowment that invests in community-based projects providing directed, measurable, and attainable services to at-risk youth populations. The Foundation is a Donor Advised Fund and a portfolio holding of the American Endowment Foundation (AEF) a registered 501 (c) 3 organization.  AEF is the nation’s leading independent donor-advised fund program and holds the Guidestar Gold Seal of Transparency.

Our mission is to fund projects that deliver community outcomes in the areas of diversity, equality, and inclusion for our most precious population; our children.  We believe our communities become enriched when we empower diverse viewpoints, treat our neighbors as equals, and include different and unique peoples and their beliefs.  With this purpose, we look to novel and innovative projects that deliver tangible outcomes that better our communities in sustainable ways.

The Foundation, founded on the passions and beliefs of Colin Wolf, who passed away on February 18, 2021, is framed by its mission to carry on Colin's love for community giving, compassionate care, and the values of diversity, equality, and inclusion.
